What we like about this book is how passionate Robert Langdon is about the past and how much he feels it has to tell us about the present. Even when, at the beginning of the story, he believes the grail and Priory of Sion are the myths of long ago he still believes that they have significance. Langdon believes in the power of the past to educate us.
Brown takes many liberties with history and art history in weaving his compelling narrative and that is fine. It is up to the reader to realize that this is a work of fiction and to approach it as such. But the real facts of Da Vinci’s life and work are worth exploring and are sometimes even more extraordinary than the fiction.
