In the second movie Nicholas Cage’s character is out to restore his good family name.  His quest is a personal one and the treasure he seeks not for its cultural value.  However he does value it that way secondarily and in the final scene we see his mother, acting in her role as a scholar, making sure that the discovered treasure is handled properly.
